Built in 1939, 11539 Decente Drive is a part of the rich local history of Studio City, with its sprawling views of the surrounding area.

Named for the lot known as CBS Studio Center, Studio City was actually originally known as Laurelwood. It was part of Rancho Ex-Mission San Fernando, a Mexican land grant from Governor Pio Pico to Eulogio de Celis in 1846.

After the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct made its way to the San Fernando Vally in 1913, real estate in the area took off.

A syndicate led by Harry Chandler, Hobart Johnstone Whitley, Isaac Van Nuys, and James Boon Lankershim purchased the southern portion of the Mission lands. Whitley acquired the area that makes up present-day Studio City.

Fast forward 14 years, to when Mack Sennett started construction on a 20-acre plot of land in the area. This construction would soon become a new studio – and thus, the area around the studio was renamed Studio City.

The area quickly became known as a hot spot for the film industry. As such, housing was soon built for industry employees as their families. Since then, recognizable figures such as Paul Thomas Anderson, Bonnie Bartlett, and George Clooney – among countless others – have called the area home.
